My body... Strong. Tired. Athletic. Soft.
'My breasts have sagged from feeding my babies and my tummy is softer. My hips and thighs have become wider and I feel like my whole body shape has changed since I became a mother. I have also become stronger from carrying both children and I have strength in my arms and legs which wasn't previously there. The lack of sleep has given me dark circles under my eyes and the lines on my face have become more pronounced as I continuously worry about how well I am bringing them up.'
I love my eyes and mouth the most, although both are showing signs of age.
'We have a simple life but one which is full of love, just like my own childhood. My mother brought up 3 children on her own and is my constant source of inspiration. She makes me want to be a better, stronger woman and has helped me to live and believe in myself throughout my life.'
I am proud of my children and want them to be proud of me.
'I want to record this amazing time in my own life. I also hope to inspire both of them to have a positive relationship with their own and other people's bodies as they develop in their own lives. The images make me realise how proud I am of my children and of myself for being their mother.'
The more I delve into this work, speak to women and hear their stories, the more I understand about the deeply complex and nuanced ways that motherhood effects our bodies and our relationships with them. We carry the burden and joys of this all consuming role in so many ways and so many unexpected places.
I am so grateful to the women who trust me to make these images and share their stories.
